Where to go for a relaxing, beach-included holiday in Greece?

January 302010

My boyfriend is very stressed out with his job and wants to go on holiday to Greece. No tacky tourist destinations. Nice weather. With beach (not pebbled, please.) Relaxation is a must.

But where to go? I’m finding it surprisingly difficult to find much easily digestible information as there are so many possible destinations. I’m very concerned about picking an area and finding it heaving with nightclubs and tourist tack. I really don’t want that!

Can anyone recommend somewhere?

Thanks!

Buy a ticket to Athens or Kalamata, then rent a car and drive to Finikounda (400 km from Athens or 60 kms from Kalamata). It is a small fishing village, few tourists, great food, cheap accomodation (no need for reservation). Its a place where you will love for ever.

How can i make my room modern and beach themed?

I am moving rooms so i get to re-design it. I was thinking modern/beachy. Opinions? Help?

I’m doing the same thing right now and found an awesome example on HGTV’s Rate My Space:

http://ratemyspace.hgtv.com/SNC/ViewItem.aspx?pguid=6db6be3f-1720-4ba3-a081-999042c09b6b&itemGuid=cc0ffd55-b912-4522-b8c0-3a3de5c878aa

The colors remind me of sand and the ocean, but still stay fairly contemporary. Modern is hard to do because it is more about minimalism.

I pretty much copied this idea and it was cheap to do. I also added coral pieces (cheap on eBay) and put a hurricane lamp full of sand and rocks from my favorite beach. Good luck!

Where can I get wood to have a bonfire at Ocean Beach in SF?

January 302010

Also, should I bring anything else (like lighter fluid?). Where can I get this stuff?

Thanks.

Most people just collect fallen branches, etc… from GG Park across the street. Starter logs technically aren’t allowed, and you can be fined (and have the fire shut down) for using them. The reason is because they’re drenched in chemicals, which isn’t preferable considering the beach is home to many wild animals (birds of various sorts, rats, etc…) and toxic chemicals aren’t really a great idea. Likewise, lighter fluid is also illegal to use. I think driftwood is banned, too.

People obviously use these things, and often get away with it… but if you’re caught, you’re in trouble. And even if not caught, it’s quite irresponsible to do so considering the potential environmental problems (not like there isn’t enough toxic crap on the beach lately, but…).

Also, you’re responsible for putting the fire out and getting rid of all of the debris… Most people do the former, few do the latter. Likewise, the former is heavily enforced (if a cop sees an unattended fire, or a group walking away from a fire, it’s ALWAYS enforced)… the latter, not so much.

Do you know of any Myrtle Beach rental companies that rent to students for senior week?

January 302010

I am having such a hard time finding companies that don’t prohibit "groups" under the age of 25. We are very responsible and just want to have fun. Do you have any suggestions? We are a large group, so hotels or condos are kinda out of the question.

unsupervised?
i hope not.

Nudist beach/location in or near fairfield county?

January 302010

I was thinking about going to Fire Island, but two hours is longer than I’d like to drive (I have to think of an excuse to go out for something other than a nude beach, so I don’t want it to take too long). Anyone know anywhere I could go?

BTW, I’m not gay, but it seems like a lot of gay people frequent nude beaches, so I thought I’d ask here. I’d prefer somewhere not completely dominated by gay people, though, and I hope I’m not offending anyone by asking.

Have you thought about Sandy Hook? Here’s a link:

Is there any private beach resorts for rent in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia?

January 302010

i wanna go up and rent a cabin or whatever for like a week or a month, any ideas?

you have plenty of resorts with cabins for rent, but i believe you will have to go see for yourself to check which one answers most your requirements, some are made for expats only, some are mixed crowd, some have a younger crowd with somewhat of a "nightlife" and no beach, just a pool, some are in open sea, some are in the lagoon (somehow dirtier water in the lagoon resulting from permanent jet ski and jet boat traffic)
if you are a diver, you want to go to an open sea cabins.
there is cabins available on a daily, monthly and yearly basis. some beaches you can access without renting a cabin, just by paying an entrance. go look it up they are all in the area called obhur.
other way to access is to go through one of the main hotels in town, they have their own beach for their clients : sheraton, bilad, intercontinental, or if you live ina compound check with your management as some compounds have beach access for their tenants.

If you had to take just your hand luggage on a beach holiday what would you pack?

January 282010

I am packing my hand luggage as a mini wardrobe, just in case when I reach Turkey my suitcase doesn’t!

Smart girl! This very thing did happen to me. It was a hard lesson.

Pack sample sizes of deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, sunblock. Rely upon your hotel for other items or plan to buy them at your destination.

Pack a comb, brush but leave the hair dryer and other stuff at home. Again, you can buy them there and only three 1oz. bottles are allowed on the plane. All hotels seem to have hair dryers.

Pack a bathing suit, 3 pairs of undies, 2 pairs of shorts & 2 tops in coordinating colors (4 outfits), one pair of capris, a coverup that can double as a tunic over the capris and a light balero style jacket or sweater. Take a pair of sandals. If all of your clothes can be interchanged, you’ll have 6 or 7 outfits and you can wash out items in the bathroom sink and hang them to dry overnight. Just use the hotel’s shampoo samples.

Take basic jewelry such as pearl studs, a pair of gold or silver hoops, a coordinating 18 or 20" chain and a pearl choker.

Roll your clothes rather than folding them. It saves space. You’ll be set for anything, day or evening!

What would be good decor for a beach themed room?

January 282010

Anything: paint color, bed spreads, lighting, wall decoration, ect.

I think that a nice, sandy beige on the walls would be nice. Add pale blue accents with pillows and stuff. Shells and polished rocks are good decorative items(put them on picture frames maybe.) polished glass is nice mosaicced on a bedside table. White is another good color to add as a beach room in usually very light and airy feeling. I like round mirrors too, I guess they remind us of portholes in shipe. Beach towels are usually striped and could even be used as the material to make pillows. The possibilities are endless. good luck.

Does anyone know of a wheelchair friendly cottage on the beach?

January 282010

I am desperately looking for a cottage with a sea view where I can sit in my wheelchair and watch the waves! Anywhere in England/Wales will be fine.

If its for a holiday (which I’m guessing it is) have a look on
www.welcomecottages.com

if you search under ‘availability search’ you can search holiday cottages that are easy access properties / wheelchair friendly
