Sunny beach vacation in the continental USA?
February 182010
I am dreaming of a sunny, warm beach vacation in the continental USA. My ideal place would be someplace warm without a lot of people within three hours drive of an airport. I would like an affordable vacation rental home or bungalow (no motels) on or near the beach. I was thinking somewhere along the Caribbean – maybe Texas or Florida. Any ideas?
Oops, I meant Gulf of Mexico. Has anyone been to Galvenston, Texas? Is it pretty? Is it mello?

Galveston is nice but the beaches are all surrounded by concrete walls because of them being scared of Global Warming raising the water. There are a few nice beaches if you just drive south of Galveston though. Some of those smaller towns are really quaint and very affordable. Me, I would go to Flamingo, Florida though. It is about a 3 hour drive from Miami International Airport, it is out by itself, they do have cottages and it is a very unique beach as the grass goes right up to the water. You can also spot manatee in there from time to time. But suicide and feeding the alligators is both illegal so be careful.

You can check out vacation homes on alwaysonvacation.com. What about Myrtle Beach SC, went there once years ago and it wasn’t very crowded.
