I can cancel reservations with a 48 hour notice and get my deposit back. However, I’ve taken off work for a 3 day weekend, and my kids were super excited about going to the beach. There is nothing else to do that is fun in our destination town, and it is going to rain in every drivable city nearby here in my state. Any suggestions? We need a vacation desperately. My Husband and I are planning a trip to Florida and we can’t decide which hotel to stay and where in Florida, but the things I came across when looking at hotels are some of the rooms say Ocean Front or Beach front or gulf view.
What is the difference between them? We want a room facing the beach but on a higher floor of the hotel. We don’t want to be on the first or second floor.
Also can you tell me the best beaches to go to in Florida that isn’t too expensive to stay in a hotel on the ocean?
I actually think the hotels in North Palm Beach were pretty cheap and they are right on the beach. Like you step outside the back door right into sand. It really never gets that packed (relative to Miami and other packed areas) and its usually filled with older people/families, but its a cheap hotel located right on the beach.
Since you posted this in "Miami", it is important to note that Beach Front Hotels in Miami tend not to be physically right on the beach. Instead most hotels have a little back entrance (with a gate that uses your room card to open and close) that you use to access the beach. you need to walk through 10-20 yards of brush and the broadwalk/pedestrian walkway before you get right to the beach. (everything is cleared and its a easy walk). So it goes Hotel/backyard gate/pedestrian walkway/10-20 yards of vegetation/and then sand. Its not a big deal, but some people never know what to expect. Not all hotels are like this, but many are.
Concerning room views. You will often see "Ocean Front" vs "Ocean View" rooms. Ocean Front rooms actually face the beach (full-on) while Ocean View rooms usually involve having to go on the balcony to be able to see the beach. Many hotels dont have rooms that face to the inland part of Florida, unless their is some sort of intercostal waterway and the hotel thinks the views are still nice. Its a little bit more tricky to get a room on a higher floor. Most of the time, rooms are given out when you arrive, so your best bet is to ask for a higher floor when you get there.
Again, in Miami, many hotels are only 1-3 stories and family owned (and not right on the beach…always check where the hotel is on a map…many of the cheaper hotel rooms in Miami beach are located 1-2 blocks away from the beach). The taller hotels tend to be the more up-scale resorts/chain hotels and these tend to be right on the beach.

While I’ve not been to a nudist beach, I am a nudist and have been to many resorts and campgrounds. Generally speaking, a nudist local is NOT a good place to go meet woman. You do meet many excellent, friendly people at those locations (SLAP… Not that kind of friendly), but usually those people are already involved in a relationship. If you do meet someone, you should approach them the same way you would at the mall, or on a street. Nudist are the same as textile (regular) people, they just don’t need to wear clothes to socialize on a regular level.
You should always keep a towel handy when you are at a nudist beach or resort. It is very poor etiquette to sit bare bottomed on something someone else will likely use. If you ever go to a nudist resort you will always see people carrying towels. When they sit down, they will put the towel down first, although at a beach it would be ok to sit bare bottomed on the sand. If you should happen to have an erection, you can cover up with a towel, role over (if your laying down) or go for a swim. It is poor manners to walk around publicly exposing an erection. Its not a crime, and it happens, but it should be avoided. It would be the same as ripping farts in a public place without trying to hide it or say excuse me.
There is a very well known nude beach in San Diego, Blacks Beach. California is riddled with nudist/naturist resorts. Your lucky to live there. I placed a listing of nudist places in the source box.
The previous poster mentioned Villa Terisita. At P400 per night in a dorm room, it would be the cheapest place I know with a pool. In fact it has about 5 swimming pools. The main pool has a huge double water slide. It is a very pleasant place to go for the day for a picnic. It is in Talisay City and is about 30 minutes drive from the centre of Cebu City, depending on traffic. Standard rooms start at P800 per night for a double. The website is here

Also in Talisay City is Aqua Cainta. I have no website but in 2004, it was about P600 per night for a small cottage. It is probably double that now. It has a triple water slide in the main pool and and is a pleasant place to go for the day for a picnic. You pass Aqua Cainta on the way to Villa Terisita.
Tubod Flowing waters was also mentioned. Prices start at P1200 per night for a double. It is situated in Minglanila and is up to an hour from the centre of Cebu City, depending on traffic. It is a water wonderland and a nice place to go for a picnic for the day. The main pool has a large double waterslide. The website is here

Yup. My parents took me, and when I have kids I’ll take them. Kids generally hate wearing swimsuits anyway. Every time I go to a textile beach I always see at least 3 kids who want nothing to do with the bathing suit.
