i want to do my room a beach theme. what color rug/paint should i get?
October 262009
please send links. and what kind of accessories should i get? and give other ideas!
Behr paint has a sunny yellow color called "beachday" that would be perfect. I would paint the lower 2/3 of your walls this color, and the top 1/3 a light blue, like "velvet sky." It will look so refreshing! Check ‘em out:

Then separate the two wall colors with a wallpaper border, like one of these:

Good colors for a beach theme are sand and sky blue. My wife did a beach themed bathroom, where she painted three walls a sand color and one wall a sky blue. She then put in various accessories (clamshell-shaped bath rug, glass jar with a few inches of sand and some shells on top, starfish-shaped candles, robe hooks on the door shaped like various shells, etc.).
Actually, our whole house is kind of beach themed. In the den, we had a ceiling fan installed where the fan blades look like surf boards. We also got a palm tree area rug. You can also find some pretty nice beach or palm tree scene paintings to put up. And, try bamboo blinds on your windows.

depends on what u mean by beach themed. if u want a mural u need to get stencils unless u can freehand draw well. my room is beach themed, and i have blue rugs in it with sandy walls and a blue wall. i have some fake palms and shells all over the place. if u use sand and blue colors, the decorations will make it look like a beach more than anything. if u paint a mural, u dont need so many shells and things.

go with a sand color on the floor, a light sky blue at the top of the room and lots of bright colors in the middle. Think of the beach, what colors do you see?

I would go for Blue, white and tan. You can find some seashells and glass balls to decorate. Pottery Barn has nice pictures/ideas for it.

For the walls, try putting a very light sky blue on them. Then, get a paint sponge and dap the walls with a light yellow. As for the rug, try doing a nice tan color, and try to match it with your sheets. Any kind of wood furniture would go great would this, even dark wood. For accessories, get little seashells to put on your nighttable, dresser, and on your tv if you have one in your room. Also, get some hula flower necklaces and hand one from your mirror if you have one and around your door handle. Try to have posters of suns and beaches. With your curtains, try a pale yellow (the same kind as on your wall). Bring it all together by getting a little tiki lamp put in your room (not lit of course; you can put a candle on top if you ever feel like lighting it inside). Enjoy!

Stick with blues and sand colors. Paint the walls a beautiful shade of blue and keep the sand color on the floor. Use white accessories like lamps and shells for decorating. Fill a big crystal vase with them or for a bunch of color buy some sea glass to fill it with.
